Who are we?

At Aquablu we’re disrupting the marketplace with a revolutionary (flavored) water system. And we continue to make waves by teaming up with industry leaders like Heineken, Adyen and Marriott Hotels. Join us in our mission to save one billion plastic bottles by 2030!

“That might sound really ambitious, but our team is part of an inspiring movement in an industry that’s thirsty for change.” - Marc, Co-founder of Aquablu

About the Job:

  • Design and implement software for embedded systems and devices in functional water dispensing.

  • Collaborate with other software & hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of software and hardware components.

  • Debug and troubleshoot software issues in embedded systems in water dispensers.

  • Develop and maintain software documentation for functional water dispenser systems.

  • Participate in code reviews and ensure code quality standards are met.

  • Work directly with the people who have been working on the product from the ground up.

(Full-time position - 4 days at our lovely office in Amsterdam & 1 day remote per week)

Job requirements

About you:

  • You've shipped firmware that runs in the real world. You know that speed without structure creates technical debt, and you've built the habits to prevent it. You care about the craft, the architecture, and the product it powers.

  • You bring 3+ years of embedded firmware development, primarily in C/C++. You've worked hands-on with architectures like STM32, built features from requirements through production, and extended existing codebases without breaking what's already there. Communication protocols like I2C, SPI, and UART are second nature. You're comfortable in both RTOS-based and bare-metal environments, and you debug embedded systems with patience and precision.

  • You write clearly. Technical documentation, status updates, async communication. Your teammates always know where things stand.

  • You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (EQF 6+).

  • You're fluent in English.

  • You're based in the Netherlands or able to relocate independently, and you're eligible to work here without visa sponsorship (we're not registered IND sponsors).

    Even better if you've

  • Worked with TouchGFX or other embedded GUI frameworks.

  • Used FreeRTOS in production. Handled asynchronous RS-485 communication between microcontrollers. Built or improved embedded development toolchains and workflows. Set up testing frameworks and test automation for firmware.

  • Shipped software for appliances or consumer products. Helped a hardware company grow from 20 to 100+ people while keeping engineering practices sharp: version control discipline, code reviews, documentation, structured releases.
